Something special happens when very young children are introduced to music in a welcoming, playful environment. At Mon Valley Academy for the Arts, our Early Learner program is designed to do just that—create a space where babies and toddlers can explore sound, movement, and connection alongside their caregivers.
Our “Early Learners” class, open to children ages 6 months to 3 years, meets weekly for a fun-filled session filled with music, rhythm, and hands-on discovery. From scarves and movement activities to simple instruments and group play, each class encourages curiosity while supporting early developmental skills.
Instructor Marissa McFarren leads the class with warmth and creativity, guiding both children and caregivers through activities that build coordination, listening skills, and early musical awareness. In some sessions, you may also spot familiar faces from our MVAA leadership joining in, including our Treasurer, SueAnne Antonucci, who has been right there on the floor, participating and sharing in the experience.
Just as important as the fun is the environment we provide. All MVAA instructors and volunteers who work with children have the required clearances, ensuring a safe and supportive setting for every family.
Parents often tell us how much they appreciate having a place where their children can engage socially, experience live music, and simply enjoy being part of a creative community. These early experiences can spark a lifelong connection to music and create meaningful moments between caregivers and children.

We currently have open slots available in our Early Learner program. Space is limited, and instruments are included in the class experience.
