There are moments when community effort speaks for itself. This was one of them.
Recently, several members of the PennWest California football team volunteered their time and energy at the Peter J. Daley Cultural Center in Brownsville, the home of Mon Valley Academy for the Arts. Their task was demanding but essential: helping to demolish and clear the building’s basement in preparation for a full transformation of the space.
What they left behind was more than a cleared room. They helped create the foundation for a new opportunity.
Once completed, the renovated basement will serve as additional classroom and practice spaces, allowing Mon Valley Academy for the Arts to expand its programs and reach more students throughout the region. This expansion supports the organization’s ongoing mission to provide accessible, high-quality arts education to learners of all ages.
At the center of that mission is the Empower a Rising Star (EARS) Scholarship Program, an award-winning initiative that helps students move from aspiring musicians to accomplished performers. By removing barriers to instruction, EARS creates a meaningful pipeline for talent to grow and thrive.
The work completed by these student-athletes directly contributes to that vision.
Their efforts also reflect something larger. They demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to giving back—values that extend well beyond the football field. This kind of service strengthens communities and helps drive progress where it is needed most.
Mon Valley Academy for the Arts extends special thanks to Renee of Gotta Go Liquidation LLC in LaBelle, Pennsylvania, a longtime friend and supporter whose continued generosity has played an important role in supporting this project.
This work is part of the broader revitalization of downtown Brownsville. Each improvement helps create a stronger, more vibrant community.
